Sweep, Grip, Pull and Pass

Sweep, Grip, Pull and Pass is my major project for. Art Portfolio 1 depicting my teammates from Brazilian Jiu Jitsu who I compete with.  This project includes 4 acrylic paintings on canvas , 3 charcoal drawings and 2 sculptures created with clay in expressionist style.   One purpose of the project this term was to help me to find my own style.

One of the main problems of artists modern time is that they tried to copy other and they posting what make us unique. This project is called Sweep ,Grip ,Pull and Pass because these are basic Brazilian Jiu Jitsu movements/techniques. According to the definitions of these techniques, Sweep is a technique used to transition from a neutral to a dominant  position. Grip means “grip fighting’ is the first part of any grappling mach. Pull is when athlete transition from a standing to the guard position.  Pass means “passing the guard” is when one of athlete pass an opponent legs to establish a dominant position.  My work shows movement, expression, technique and action in Brazilian Jiu Jitsu.

In these paintings ,drawings and sculptures I tried to paint and show expression, movement, atmosphere and emotions. Other thing is to catch the viewers eye and make paintings in same time expression like artists did before and make it in my own individual unique style.  Project “Sweep, Grip, Pull and Pass” is my first project where I made a canvas and where I'm showing action in expressionist style.
